PRIORITIES
Linda's List
Helping More Children Succeed
The Learning Community should stay focused on its core mission: helping children and families succeed by investing in what works. Dr. Linda Vermooten believes strong early learning, engaged families, and accountable leadership create better outcomes for students and stronger communities.
Early Learning Matters
Linda supports high-quality early childhood programs that help children enter school ready to learn, grow, and succeed. The Learning Community’s elementary learning centers are designed to improve academic outcomes for children facing challenges such as poverty, mobility, and limited English skills.
Stronger Families, Stronger Students
Parents are a child’s first and most important teachers. Linda believes the Learning Community should continue supporting programs that help families become more confident, informed, and engaged in their children’s education. Programs highlighted by the Learning Community, including Parent University and other two-generation efforts, are built around the idea that when parents and children learn together, outcomes improve for the whole family.
Support for Students Who Need It Most
Every child deserves the opportunity to thrive. The Learning Community exists to help narrow achievement gaps and improve educational outcomes for children and families, especially those facing economic and academic barriers. Linda supports keeping resources focused on students and neighborhoods where they can make the greatest difference.
Partnerships That Produce Results
Good outcomes require strong partnerships. Linda supports collaboration between schools, families, nonprofits, and community institutions to help students succeed. The Learning Community’s existing work with community partners reflects that mission, and Linda wants to build on it in practical, accountable ways.
Accountability and Responsible Stewardship
Taxpayer dollars should be used wisely. The Coordinating Council has real responsibilities involving funding, audits, program agreements, and evaluation. Linda believes every program should be reviewed honestly, measured carefully, and funded based on results for children and families. Nebraska law specifically assigns the council responsibilities related to pilot projects, financial audits, and discussion of evaluation results and best practices.
Common-Sense Leadership
This role should be practical, focused, and results-driven. Linda brings decades of experience in education, counseling, and family support. She believes the Learning Community should stay centered on student success, family engagement, and measurable improvement, not politics or distractions.

Focused on What Works for Children and Families
Dr. Linda Vermooten is running for Learning Community Coordinating Council District 5 to help strengthen early learning, support parents, and ensure the Learning Community remains accountable to the families it serves.
